Social Work Licensure

Licensure in social work exists to protect our profession and those we serve. In Missouri, there are two baccalaureate licensures and three master level licensures. Each has a unique scope and focus of practice, defined by statute. Each has specific requirements to obtain, relating to education, testing, and in some cases, supervised experience.

Recent Provisions:

Starting January 1, 2027, all licensed professionals will be required to complete training on sex and human trafficking as part of their continuing education. For your first license renewal after becoming initially licensed, you must complete 2 hours of sex and human trafficking training. After that, every renewal cycle will require 1 hour of training. These hours count toward your 30-hour continuing education requirement. This mandate will remain in effect until December 31, 2031.
