What are the educational requirements for licensure?

LBSW: a baccalaureate degree in social work from an accredited social work degree program approved by the council of social work education (CSWE)

- October - January; two year license $70.00
- February - May; one & one half year license $55.00

What is the required supervision or experience needed for licensure?
|
LBSW: No supervision or experience needed (Refer to Statute 337.665. 1(1-5))

LMSW: No supervision of experience needed (Refer to Statute 337.644. 1(1-5))

LBSW-IP: 2 years post-undergraduate supervised experience; minimum of 3,000 hours obtained in no less than 24 and no more than 48 consecutive months (Refer to Statute 337.665. 5)

LAMSW: 2 years post-undergraduate supervised experience; minimum of 3,000 hours obtained in no less than 24 and no more than 48 consecutive months (Refer to Statute 337.645. 1(2))

Is there any way to be 'grand-parented in' as a licensed social worker?
|
No. The LCSW grand-parenting period ended July 1, 1992.
|

Does Missouri have reciprocity with licensure from other states?
|
Missouri will grant reciprocity only with states that meet exact requirements. Supervision hours, work/practice hours and the relevant ASWB exam may be accepted toward meeting the requirements if deemed equitable to Missouri standards. The State Committee for Social Workers is the only entity that has the authority to determine if reciprocity will be granted to a licensee. Refer to Rules Section 20 CSR 2263-2.060. How soon can I apply for licensure?
|
You may apply for the LBSWor LMSW within 60 days of graduation from your accredited social work program. Please visit the State Committee for Social Workers website at http://pr.mo.gov/boards/socialworkers/LMSW_LBSW%20Appl%20ONLINE.pdf for instructions and the application.

Do Missouri's licensed social workers have Privileged Communication?
|
Yes. Refer to Statute Section 337.636.Missouri supports the legal definition of Privileged Communication between licensed social workers and clients, except where there is a risk of public danger or a threat to the public good. "Privileged Communication" is defined as the premise and understanding between a professional and client that the information revealed by the client will not be divulged to others without expressed permission.
